Post Hello! • Posted: Sun Oct 25, 2009 12:40 am
Some of you may already know me, but I'm new here. I obviously didn't forget to post a welcome topic three years ago or anything of the sort. I could go into a boring description of myself, or I could show you all pictures of my recent trip to Disney World!

Oh, before we begin, I should introduce my possy to you.

Image

From left to right, we see Travis Ball, David Trudeau (troo-DOH), Joseph Riecken (REE-kehn), and me, David Schreifels (SHRY-fehlz). That's us in the airport-to-airplane-passage-thingy-whose-name-currently-escapes-me. We were all very excited.

Image

Well, they were. In all candor, I wasn't very excited at all, and was just screwing around. That is just after we landed, leaving the airport on coach buses. Joe decided it would be fun to read My Immortal all the way there (and all the way to the airport that morning), for which we all thanked him. /wrists

Anyway, backing up a bit..

Image

Here's us at the Florida airport. Being that our "professional guide" wasn't at all organized, we got to sit there for about half an hour waiting to leave the airport. Excepting general memory shots, I tried to avoid cameras. I must say I thought I pulled it off rather well..

Image

Or perhaps not. Anyway, on the first day, just having gotten there, we were off to our hotel rooms..

Image

..and then to Downtown Disney to witness Cirque du Soleil: La Nouba.

Image

Unfortunately, no cameras were allowed in the performance, for understandable reasons.

Image
The next day was the Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom (two kingdoms in a day!). That's the marching band (the Blaine Marching Bengals) with whom we came to Florida. I don't like most of them. The band director is the chubby guy on the right.

Image

Here's Joe and I playing the tram game on the way into the Magic Kingdom. For those of you who don't know, you play by standing on one foot for the entire tram ride. You gain one point for falling over, having to set down your foot to regain balance, leaning on something, or switching feet, and the person with the most points loses. I won. Every time. (Like a boss)

Oh, and that guy in the background is Peter, our senior drum major. That's a terrible picture of him, though.

Image

Here's us just getting into the Magic Kingdom, showing off our passes. Ignore the people hobojacking our picture, they're losers. No, really.

Just getting inside, we decided that Joe, being the only one who had actually been to Disney World before, would be our tour guide. He made sure we hit all the best stuff, plus a few other things. We decided to head for the Magic Castle first.

Image

But everybody knows what that looks like. This is Trudeau and Ball as we got on our first ride in Disney World: the leaf juice cups!

Anyway, we had to think fast; after all, we had a parade coming up that we were marching in! So, we decided to try to pull the sword from the stone. Word had it that whoever pulled it got to be king of the parade!

Image

Just after attempting the sword, we had a brief reunion with my family.

Image

That's me in the middle. What a small world!

And then came the parade. You should be able to view the video if you have a Facebook page, however, because the band people aren't very intelligent, it's not going to be on YouTube. I'm the nearest saxophone to the camera, Trudeau is the nearest trombone, and Joe is the tuba in back.

So then it was off to the Animal Kingdom, which brings us to this guy:

Image

That is nick Bunio (BOO-nee-oh), whom we lovingly refer to as Mr. B-Fly; he's one of our co-directors. We found out he was a ride pansy, so naturally we had to take him on Dinosaur, where the ride attendant helped us in saying that it was a nice relaxing ride. In actuality, it was a terribly shaky ride through the late Cretacious (sp) Period, just before the meteor fell. We were supposed to be finding a dinosaur, so the vehicle would stop, tell you it was identifying, say the identity, and then would begin to move again. My kidneys died a slow, painful death, but it was worth it because the first time the Scientist told the computer to stop in front of a huge, advancing animatron, Mr. B-Fly began screaming "No, GO!"

Image

Finally, having had dinner at Yik and Yak's cafe, we decided to scale the clearly-American Mt. Everest and investigate rumours of a yeti. By this time, we had salvaged Max Curtis from the group of losers I mentioned earlier (you know, the ones who hobojacked our photo). He was sitting next to me on our adventure into the depths of Everest, guiding the rest of us in.

Image

Here's us finding the yeti.

The next day was Islands of Adventure. We initially had to ditch a couple of tag-alongs who were real buzz-kills, but then we made our way to Jurassic Park. Unfortunately for you all, Joe's camera takes pictures with a ridiculous resolution, so click the links.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010077.jpg

I did it for my country.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010081.jpg

We proceeded to try Science at the local research lab..

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010084.jpg

..after which I drove the others to the next island in my sweet new ride. Yeah, I know you're jealous. I always was.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010086.jpg

Just before we got there, we decided to grab a picture of this awesome-looking statue (for Science!). However, the next island was very different. We found that, the closer we got, the less you could tell dreams from reality.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010090.jpg

Here's us on Dr. Suess's Acid-Go-Round. Anyway, about midday, Travis, Max, and Trudeau break off from our group, and we get in trouble along with some others for being late back. At least we got ice cream. ;)

Joe and I, after doing some harsh manual labour to make up for our crime (bringing back bags to the hotel for the other bandies, which eventually ended up inconveniencing the rest of the band more than it did us (Scotty, Carlene, and Katherine weren't with us because we, unlike them, had been late that morning to the bus to go to Islands of Adventure)), were off to Epcot.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010096.jpg

Here's us just before we ventured into Spaceship Earth, after which we proceeded to grab some dinner at Sommerfest, being that we're both at least half German. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to visit the Irish Pub before the light show, but we found out that the light show music provides an excellent running atmosphere if you don't want to be late back to the bus for a third time.

The third day we went to a waterpark of which we have few pictures because it was a water park.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010099.jpg

Here's Joe and I at the entrance.

These are Scotty, Carlene, and Katherine..

..with whom we spent the better part of the day. We had seen them the day before, when they, Joe, and I got in trouble for being late by five minutes (again by the wisdom of our guide) when we were supposed to leave Islands of Adventure.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010100.jpg

Oh, that's us, just before we went scuba diving. With sharks.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010104.jpg

After that, we were off to Hollywood Studios or something to that effect. Those two chicks in front? Those are two tag-alongs that we didn't manage to ditch for quite a while. Fortunately, in traveling with us, they didn't know what they were getting in to.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010107.jpg

After checking out the Space Battles Pew Pew Pew ride, we went on a behind-the-scenes tour of stage props, where we saw..

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010107.jpg

Herby the love bug,

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010116.jpg

A giant freaking Mickey water tower,

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010121.jpg

The cage from Pirates of the Caribbean,

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010136.jpg

A snow speeder thing whose name currently escapes me,

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010138.jpg

and the spaceship from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, among several other things.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010138.jpg

After that, there were a bunch of costumes, or replicas thereof, of famous villains and things, such as Darth Vader and the pipe organ from The Flying Dutchman. We then proceeded to the Aerosmith ride.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282 ... 010138.jpg

It was fast. Right after that, we were off to..

Image

The Tower of Terror! The lighting was obviously ideal for pictures..

Either way, my first time on it was, incidentally, at twilight, which greatly enhanced the experience. We finished off the night with Fantasmic, and then the next morning we were up bright and early to head home, accompanied by further readings of My Immortal.

This photo is now justified.

Image

Well, what did you think? Joe and I thought it was a pretty cool story, bro.

Oh! Hi noob. :p Welcome to the Underwoods, make sure you check the rules as ZE said and don't get on his nerves. Ever. And, have some fruit and cake and what not. It's free and has no forbidden thing about it...really. No witch ever touched the stuff in a thousand years. ;) (But not in 1001 years, but we just keep that under wraps, right?)

Anyways...err..., dude. You really might not want to hear this, but I already guessed what you looked like. Short, orange haired, Irish, etc. (No, it has nothing to do with my great grandma being like fully Irish...really...) :shifty: Good day. :p

No! DL, why the crap did you reveal yourself. Now I'm the only staff that hasn't posted a picture of myself. Oh, the pressure just doubled.

Updated the post. Seeing as you all only saw about half the trip, feel free to comment on the second half there. It was pretty intense.
