Well, not too long ago 4chan was blocked by AT&T, and by the sounds of the comments on the place I checked for it, people are livid(sp). I myself am a bit upset, not by the fact that 4chan has been blocked, but this could possibly be the stepping block for greater blockings, like Deviantart, Elfwood, et cetera. Soon enough, it could possibly progress until the whole internet has been blocked, or so a person said.

Sure 4chan has the vile /b/tards, but AT&T blocking them is going to stir something up.

Tell your thoughts about this topic.

Power corrupts. If this is let to happen, that power can and will be abused to the point where anything could be censored. AT&T is likely trying to take the law into its own hands by disconnecting a few thousand Anonymous members, but that won't stop them. It will not, in fact, stop anything, pornography, illegal content, or anything else. There will always be underground websites for those kinds of things, Anonymous and their multiple XChans are proof enough of that. Those Anons, instead of giving up, will likely just connect to another site, and nothing of value will be lost.

My views on Anonymous are for another topic though. My point is that this action is rather pointless. It's like AT&T is trying to police the internet, and they will not succeed.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.

Sad that I lol'd at that.

Deku's right though. All AT&T managed to do by blocking 4chan, is start a massive *Navi* storm that I don't think they'll be able to handle. 4Chan may just be the "retarded" place for all those /b/tards to go hang out at, but it's also a haven for insurgents. Due to it's large userbase I'm willing to bet that 4Chan has a few hundred talented hackers, and I doubt that AT&T wants to take on a few hundred people.

Though as far as I know, the blocking has stopped?

I wouldn't be surprised if other companies and networks began to block sites such as these, hell, even a large portion of the internet. But it's futile, really. Getting around blocked websites isn't that difficult, and there's always alternatives.
But the whole idea of a network trying to censor the internet bothers me, even if it's useless on their part. Censorship in other media is bad enough, I would hate to see that happen on the internet. But, given the nature of the Internet, I doubt they would ever be successful.
