Bottom up...

Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:33 am » *Navi*.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:30 am » You're gone?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:30 am » And...
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:29 am » But you were by no means understanding, you were rude and largely missing the point of what I was trying to share with you.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:28 am » That might not be your definiton, and that's fine.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:28 am » By my definition that counts as made up.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:28 am » Most of these Shakespeare made himself, and the best people can do is say, "It was probably..."
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:27 am » No...
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:27 am » Goodness.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:26 am » And unlike you, I have no quasi-interest in teaching the nature of entomology. Good night.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:26 am » This is basic science. You take the best explanation until a new one is found.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:24 am » Ah.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:24 am » And should be assumed so until new evidence is found.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:23 am » Probably usually means "yes."
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:23 am » Probably makes no difference in entomology. It's not like we can observe all language changes.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:23 am » ...?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:23 am » Ad hoc reasoning is ad hoc reasoning.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:22 am » Imitative origin from, not surprisingly, the Germans.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:22 am » "probably"
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:22 am » Hmm?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:22 am » Try "cf. Ger. spucken "to spit," L. spuere"
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:21 am » >ignoring the entomology portion
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:21 am » first recorded in the "Seven Ages of Man" speech in Shakespeare's "As You Like It."
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:20 am » ...
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:20 am » http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?all ... hmode=none
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:20 am » http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?all ... hmode=none
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:19 am » I deny you to find a single one that was created randomly, as gnorp was.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:19 am » I'm done. I've gotta get up early in the morning, and instead of working on my Mad Lib I wasted my time with you.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:19 am » Then have it your way. I claim that every word in each of those lists has a logical definition either through common sense or through this site: http://www.etymonline.com/
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:17 am » God... I'm getting too pissed.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:17 am » I'm not saying all the words make sense, so it must be you.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:16 am » The claim in this case is that the words make sense.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:16 am » You came in and said "hey guys, Shakespeare was actually full of it."
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:16 am » You're making the claim!
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:16 am » The burden of proof is on the person making the claim.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:16 am » *Navi*, I gave you my evidence, but you just say, "Hey, look it up."
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:15 am » On what evidence?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:15 am » Some are common sense.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:14 am » And they actually make sense.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:14 am » Seriously, look up "entomology of" any of those words.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:12 am » while (true) {words=sense;}
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:12 am » Name 'em.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:11 am » How many of those words make sense?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:11 am » Most?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:11 am » Most do.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:11 am » Not all.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:11 am » A few of them make sense.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:11 am » Do you mean? Birthplace? Bedroom? Barefaced?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:10 am » And they weren't created randomly. If they were, nobody would have understood them.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:10 am » Whatever form the words are in, that is the first they appeared.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:10 am » Uh, yeah. It's sort of in your own source.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:09 am » No DL.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:09 am » Blanket?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:09 am » >changing nouns into verbs, changing verbs into adjectives, connecting words never before used together, adding prefixes and suffixes
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:09 am » Besmirch?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:09 am » Bandit?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:09 am » Assassination?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:09 am » Arouse?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:08 am » Amazement?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:08 am » Advertizing?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:08 am » Addiction?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:08 am » Accused?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:08 am » Academe?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:08 am » Zany?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:07 am » Dwindle?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:07 am » Hobnob?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:07 am » Hint?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:07 am » Gnarled?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:07 am » Elbow?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:07 am » Cater?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:07 am » Dawn?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:06 am » This same concept can be applied to the vast multitude of the words you presented.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:06 am » Oh really? You don't think eyeball is a good word? Understandable, even? It's as if it refers to the spherical shape... of the eye.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:05 am » Ignoring evidence someone gives you is not refuting a claim.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:05 am » Sure it does. Truth isn't a democracy. What you mean to say is it doesn't matter to you where you are when your opponent refutes your claims and asks for more if you've got it.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:04 am » It doesn't matter where I am in the debate if my opponent always says I'm losing.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:04 am » The kind of person whose arrogance outweighs their argument is another.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:03 am » There are only certain people I get irritated with, Staas. The kind of person who's only interested in debate while they're ahead is one of them.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:01 am » Someone else can decide who was right or wrong.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:01 am » But I'm not going to argue with you, as I doubt that'd get anywhere.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:00 am » You seem to have the same problem.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:00 am » I've also noticed that they come out during arguments.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:00 am » I've noticed you run away from arguments when you're losing.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:59 am » I've noticed I have some anger issues.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:59 am » Not that you haven't noticed. You always notice things, right?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:58 am » Because you've done an astounding job of irritating the lot of them recently, mate.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:58 am » And telling whom? The the administrator, who's already a bit miffed at you? The moderation team? Your peers?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:57 am » Telling what? Telling everybody your absurd, baseless claims are true?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:57 am » I'm telling.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:57 am » That's it.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:56 am » Further, there is clearly no benevolence behind your "teaching" seeing as you don't actually care if I learn your false information.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:56 am » ...
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:55 am » You have an astoundingly arrogant method of teaching. Especially when you're blatantly ignoring counterarguments and continuing to rave.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:54 am » Fine, go ahead and remain ignorant for all I care.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:54 am » I'm trying to tell you something so you might learn something and you tell me to *Navi* off?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:53 am » I'm not going to read an entire article every time you fail to defend your argument.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:53 am » What the heck is wrong with you?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:53 am » *Navi* off.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:53 am » Read the whole damned thing.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:52 am » sensible*
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:52 am » These are, again, sensical combinations.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:52 am » That was kind of funny actually.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:52 am » http://pronetowanderblog.com/2012/03/18 ... -nonsense/
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:52 am » Uh, no.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:51 am » The point is he was pulling stuff out of his *Navi* and somebody loved it.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:51 am » The fact is that he wasn't just pulling words out of his *Navi*.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:51 am » That part I'm not so certain on.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:51 am » Also, maybe he was making up words for the commoners?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:50 am » That's beside the point.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:50 am » I wasn't being serious.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:50 am » Gnorp is a joke.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:50 am » Which is how languages evolve over time. Everybody does this combining of words to make new ones.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:50 am » gnorp is entirely fabricated. Words like the ones listed on this site were crafted from other words.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:49 am » Those are all legitimate combinations. We do this all the time. What's special about Shakespeare?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:49 am » ...What?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:48 am » He did what everybody does, and did not, in the assumed sense, make up words.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:48 am » So what you're saying is
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:47 am » http://shakespeare-online.com/biography ... ented.html
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:47 am » You're making absurd claims.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:46 am » I don't know that, and neither do you.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:45 am » You do at least know he made up words right?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:43 am » You have no basis for your claims.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:43 am » So what you're saying is
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:43 am » I don't know which ones were to screw with people.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:43 am » It was a joke for all the educated aristocrats.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:42 am » Name one.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:42 am » Yes he did.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:42 am » He... didn't...?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:42 am » No, I'm talking about how he made up words just to *Navi* with people.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:42 am » Once upon a time our language was based on Latin and Romantic roots.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:42 am » English is degrading because words don't mean anything anymore.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:41 am » Shakespeare isn't even hard to read.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:37 am » Because Shakespeare is a troll?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:37 am » And this is why English is retarded.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:37 am » From now on a verb ending in s shall be called a gnorp!
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:36 am » Nonsense!
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:36 am » They won't catch unless society deems them important.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:36 am » Let us coin words!

I don't know what you hope to achieve posting this in the Serious Board, but at least post everything from the beginning.

Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:36 am » Let us coin words!
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:35 am » No, I'm saying that English is a woefully inadequate language.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:32 am » If that were so, there'd be no editting process in writing.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:31 am » I'm supposed to just know how to perfectly word everything right off the top of my head?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:31 am » ...?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:30 am » It is when English is your native tongue.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:30 am » Is it so wrong to be a perfectionist?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:30 am »
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:29 am » You're making this too complicated.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:29 am » "number more than one"
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:28 am » What about the number?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:28 am » Alright.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:28 am » Just do that then?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:27 am » That's why Mad Libs always said "verb ending in s"
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:24 am » And it has to be worded a certain way.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:22 am » And?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:20 am » It's for a Mad Lib.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:20 am » ...
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:19 am » It's called the present tense.
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:18 am » Yes.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:13 am » And also, is there a specific word for verbs ending in s?
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:11 am » ...?
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:11 am » You could warp plural
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:11 am » Or
Deku Lord « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:11 am » Greater than.
Anastas « Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:08 am » Is there a word for a number higher than one?

The only thing I can say that is "uncalled for" are these arguments, debates, whatever you want to label them that I've seen at least on three occasions when I wake up in the morning, to see a mess in the chat box left behind by a debate between a member and yourself. It feels like you are simply arguing for the sake of arguing and there is no other motive or point of starting these "debates". Let's take this one as prime example; it started out with a simple question regarding a Mad Lib. Mad Libs, to my understanding of them by experience, are meant to be a fun story and you make up said requested word in the Lib off the top of your head. How this got into the argument of how perfect should the English language is beyond me. It's excessive, and clearly a bother to other members (I've seen DC give you a warning, another member telling you to be quiet, and obviously, DL is getting sick of debating with you when he told you to *Navi* off. You should take a hint or take it to PMs if you really insist on continuing even, in this case, if the other member left).

I have to agree with BX. What exactly are you trying to achieve by posting this? Is this your form of "telling" as you posted? I feel like this is some attempt to gang up on DL and have more members on "your side" of this "debate/argument/whatever you want to label it". Rounding up other members to take your side for the reason of saying "see, I told you so" or "Ohhh look what a Mod did" isn't going to work well. From my own personal opinion, I would think that but other members rather not get involved in these arguments or take sides (as I've said, other members have told you to stop in the Shout Box). Respect that.

I have spoken to DL and he will be in contact with you shortly Anastas. You were right to bring this to my attention, but it would be better if you PMed me, if only so the matter is kept private. Calling this to my attention shouldn't be seen as "ganging up" on another member. It is the same if any other member had a problem with another member and wished to see it resolved. However next time it should be in a PM. This topic will serve as an object lesson for all.

I trust that cooler heads will now prevail and we can all enjoy the shoutbox for what it's for. Making puns.
